Royal Enclosure Dress Code

Her Majesty’s Representative wishes to point out that only formal day dress with a hat or substantial fascinator will be acceptable. Off the shoulder, halter neck, spaghetti straps and dresses with a strap of less than one inch and miniskirts are considered unsuitable.

Midriffs must be covered and trouser suits must be full length and of matching material and colour.

Gentlemen are required to wear either black or grey morning dress, including a waistcoat, with a top hat. A gentleman may remove his top hat within a restaurant, a private box, a private club or that facility’s terrace, balcony or garden. Hats may also be removed within any enclosed external seating area within the Royal Enclosure Garden.

Overseas visitors are welcome to wear the formal national dress of their country or Service dress.

Ladies and Gentlemen not complying with the above dress regulations will be asked to leave the Royal Enclosure and relieved of their Royal Enclosure badge.

As a day member of the Royal Enclosure, Ascot Racecourse will require the names and home address of each guest.

Grandstand Admission Dress Code

Ladies with a Grandstand Admission ticket are required to dress in a manner appropriate to a smart occasion. Many wear hats although this is not compulsory. Gentlemen in the Grandstand Admission area must wear a shirt and tie, preferably with a suit or jacket. Sports attire, jeans and shorts are strictly forbidden.

Other Information

Before you leave, check you have your tickets and car park passes. Please check the dress code to ensure you a dressed in the correct attire.

  • Gates to car parks open at 9.00am.
  • Racecourse opens at 10.30am.
  • Royal Procession takes place at approximately 2pm on all five days of Royal Ascot.
  • Racing begins at approximately 2.30pm.
  • Racing ends at approximately 5.30pm.

The earlier you arrive, the lighter the traffic is likely to be. Racegoers are requested to follow the dedicated AA signs and not to rely on their personal GPS system.

The horses go into the Parade Ring fifteen minutes before the race time, so if you would like to watch the horses before putting your bet on, go to the Parade Ring early.

Corporate Hospitality - Dress Code at Royal Ascot

If you would like to watch the Royal Procession, you will need to find a viewing position by 1.40pm in order to be able to view the procession at approximately 2pm.

After racing each day, Grandstand Admission customers can join in the singing around the bandstand which begins at 6pm each day for half an hour.
