Welcome to Cartmel Racecourse 2008
Discover the unique, charming atmosphere of Cartmel Racecourse and experience horse racing in the picturesque setting of the Lake District. An ideal venue for any celebration or event as the location is an attraction in itself, just over 20 minutes’ drive from the M6 and set amidst Cumbria’s most spectacular countryside. Cartmel has an interesting history as well as an unrivalled location with racing taking place at the course since 1856.
There are six days of racing over the Spring and August Bank Holidays, as well as a barbecue raceday in July (see special package below), every race day sees an excellent attendance. Cartmel boasts a new grandstand along with improved viewing galleries allowing visitors to experience the thrill of the race from exceptional vantage points.]
The course at Cartmel is a left handed oval of about one mile one furlong, which is bisected by the finishing straight. The run in at just over four furlongs is the longest in the country, and with the tight nature of the bends, undulating contours and carnival atmosphere all around, races at Cartmel are quite interesting, and it is well worth noting that some horses run particularly well at Cartmel and often win here and nowhere else.

Marquees
The Marquee Village is located within the Paddock Enclosure, alongside the Parade Ring and Winners’ Enclosure. Close to the action and with a private lawned area, patio furniture, CCTV and private bar, the Marquee Village is an excellent location for parties with a minimum of 30 guests.

Restaurants
The Cartmel Restaurant
The new Cartmel Restaurant can be found on the first floor of the Grandstand and provides your party with panoramic views of the racecourse, parade ring and finishing line. With its own private viewing balcony, this package is idea for smaller parties for corporate lunches or family gatherings. Please note that groups of less than 8 guests will be accommodated on shared tables within the restaurant.
