Thursday 18th to Saturday 20th September 2008

image: Ayr Racecourse GrandstandThe Ayr Gold Cup is the highlight of the flat racing calendar in Scotland. The Ayr Gold Cup itself is a horse race for three-year-old and above thoroughbreds run over a straight 6 furlongs.

The Gold Cup was first run in 1804 when the race was contested over two separate heats of 2 miles. This bears little resemblance to the much shorter race of today, which is now the richest sprint handicap in Europe with prize money of £500,000.

The current maximum number of runners is 27, taken from the 27 highest weighted horses entered for the race. The next 27 in the list compete for the Ayr Silver Cup over the same course and distance one day earlier, and the result of this can sometimes hint at a possible draw advantage in the Ayr Gold Cup.

Princess Royal Private Boxes

The third floor of the Princess Royal Stand houses private boxes to accommodate 20-100 guests. With a private balcony overlooking the finishing post and entire course, and with dedicated staff and private tote facilities, everything is in place to ensure the perfect day for you and your guests.

Paddock Stand Private Boxes

Situated on the running rail, just past the finishing post, and alongside the paddock, this is the perfect place for those who like to be right in amongst the action. Each of the Paddock Stand Private Boxes has a private balcony, offering views over the entire course. Giving easy access to the Paddock for all the pre and post-race formalities, and being close enough to 'feel' the horses thundering past, it's the ideal spot to enjoy the full experience of a day at the races. Boxes accommodate groups of between 10 and 60 guests.

Roman Warrior Restaurant

On the second floor of the Premier Princess Royal Stand, with a private balcony overlooking the finishing post, this fine dining restaurant can accommodate up to 160 diners. Named after Roman Warrior, the last Scottish trained racehorse to win the Ayr Gold Cup back in 1975, it also pays homage to some of the greatest horses ever to have run at Ayr, with large panels depicting such equine greats as Red Rum, Grey Abbey and Sea Pigeon.

Also having a view over the Paddock, and offering private tote facilities and additional plasma TV viewing, it is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the finest racing in Scotland.

Chancellor Carvery Restaurant

Situated on the first floor of the Princess Royal Stand, the Chancellor Carvery Restaurant offers glazed viewing over the finishing post and entire course, or superb views over the Paddock, with its magnificent Carvery offering an extensive range of hot and cold dishes.

It also gives direct access to the Princess Royal Stand for race viewing, and easy access to the Paddock for all the pre and post race formalities. With private tote facilities and full plasma TV viewing, it's the ideal spot for those who prefer to be 'amongst the action' of the finest in Scottish Racing.
