Exeter
Exeter Racecourse is situated high on the top of Haldon Hill, just outside Exeter with wonderful views down towards Dartmoor. It is the highest racecourse in the UK at 850 feet, the second longest at 2 miles and has been described as not only one of the loveliest courses, but one of the fairest tracks in the country.
Horse Racing was first recorded at Exeter 350 years ago in the reign of Charles II and since then many a great National Hunt champion has started their career at Exeter - such as Best Mate and Desert Orchid. Racing takes place at Exeter Racecourse 16 times a year, between October and May with the William Hill Gold Cup Meeting in November being the
highlight, and January 1st usually attracts the
biggest crowds.
